Starting on Friday, a wide swath of Randall’s Island will be taken over by an outstretched white tent and enough pop-up eateries to delight the New York gastronome (Momofuku Milk Bar! The Fat Radish! Marlow & Sons!). And, of course, miles and miles of fabulous art. Frieze New York is here, and with it comes works from over 190 of the world’s top galleries (see above for a teaser). And the experience goes beyond the booth-as-proverbial white cube; six artists are creating site-specific projects, from Naama Tsabar’s mini music festival to Eva Kotátková’s off-kilter outdoor children’s playground. Plus, there’s going to be a two-room hotel set up within the fair where a handful of guests can actually spend the night — it’s a tribute to conceptual artist Allen Ruppersberg’s 1971 installation on Sunset Boulevard, the fully functional Al’s Grand Hotel.
