We talk to the Brooklyn-based artist who’s turning heads with her style and her illustrations. Here, Jenny Walton, of Markers and Mircrons, wears — and, below, sketches — Tory’s tinsel pullover.

I first became interested in art when…
When I was a kid and started making my own clothes.

And in sketching specifically…
When I would ride the G train back and forth from Park Slope to work in Queens every day.

I love fashion illustration because…
I like being able to interpret what I see in a funny way.

And my favorite kinds of looks/styles to sketch…
Stripes.

I’d describe my own style as…
Whatever feels good that day. Usually a mix of something new and something old.

And during the holiday season, my style is…
Much more layered (winters in New York).

My art influences and inspirations…
Right now I like looking at Matisse and Picasso.

And my style influences and inspirations…
Right now I like looking at old pictures of Frida Kahlo when she was young.

Favorite places to people watch (for my sketches)…
The subway.

My playlist when working in the studio…
Right now I’m listening to The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack because it’s getting cold outside.

And my playlist when it’s the holidays…
Again The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack is really good for this. Very Christmas-y.

Favorite creatives to follow on Instagram…
@TheSartorialist, @Richard_haines, @actuallygrimes, @C_L_O, @Jamie.Hawkesworth and @JuliaCumming.

As an artist, I could never be without…
My pen!
