A Day at Louvre Abu Dhabi

This week, Tory and the team made the two hour journey from Dubai to Abu Dhabi to experience the incredible Louvre. Located on Saadiyat Island, the stunning museum is a work of art in and of itself. The building — designed by architect Jean Nouvel — was born out of a 30-year partnership between the UAE and France in which it was decided, among other things, that it would adopt the iconic French museum’s name. (A fun albeit somewhat unsettling fact: The structure’s roof alone alone weighs as much as the Eiffel Tower).

Inside the Louvre Abu Dhabi, museum-goers can experience galleries dedicated to everything from prehistoric artifacts to contemporary artworks. Tory saw some of her personal favorites — from Cy Twombly to Sonia Delaunay — and marvels including one of the oldest statues known to man, dating back to 6500 BCE. Since its opening in 2017, the museum has featured works from multiple French institutions, including Centre Georges Pompidou and Musee d’Orsay. What sets it apart, however, is the overall curation of the space which is organized chronologically and by theme, drawing parallels between different periods and civilizations. It is, as they say, a “truly universal museum.”
