The eat.sleep.wear blogger and graphic designer on all things eating, sleeping, wearing and… the power of a bright lip

My favorite thing to eat…
Shamefully, French fries. They are my favorite guilty pleasure.

My favorite place to sleep, travel-wise…
I love when I have a chance to head to Holland. Being Dutch, my family still lives there and it’s amazing to immerse myself into a different culture that is also so familiar to me.

My favorite style to wear…
As a new transplant to Southern California, I am really loving the fact that it’s the middle of winter and I can still rock my distressed boyfriend jeans without freezing my butt off. One of my guilty pleasure pieces. Every day I wake up and feel differently, so each mood deserves its own style moment. Some common themes lately? Minimal dressing and a lot of leather pieces.

My style is…
Classic with a twist of rock ‘n’ roll.

Here, I’m wearing…
Tory’s Kerstin sweater, Bailey 44 blazer, AG boyfriend jeans, Nine West booties and Karen Walker shades.

I love a bright lip because…
It’s the perfect accessory. If I forget all my jewelry or need an instant polish to my look, a swipe of my favorite lip color totally saves the day.

My go-to lip shade is…
I am an admitted lipstick junkie. But it all depends on my mood. My two go-to shades are essentials that I bring with me always: MAC Pink Nouveau (the perfect pink pout) and NARS Heat Wave (my fav red/orange lip).

How to pick the right shade of lipstick for an outfit…
I think for someone who is just getting into lipstick, use it as a pop of color. For instance, if you are dressed in a tonal neutral look, add a pop of pink. If you are wearing a look that is already very busy with prints and texture, go for a neutral peachy hue. Or just go nuts and go bright and bold all over! I am the kind of girl who wears hot pink at 10 AM and has no fear when it comes to bold hues.

The best way to apply lipstick…
Lipstick primer is the holy grail of keeping my lips moisturized and keeping my lipstick on, from coffee in the morning to drinks at night. My go-to lip primer is from MAC, Prep + Prime Lip. I even use it just as chapstick when not wearing lipstick. After a good swipe of this, I put on my lipstick straight from the tube and I am good to go. I usually don’t have the time to be fussy with a lipstick brush, so straight out of the tube works just fine for me.

The key to keeping lipstick on your mouth…
Lip primer and ordering a fork-and-knife meal. Eating a sandwich can easily get your lipstick onto your chin, so a little creative ordering keeps my lipstick right in place.

My recipe for the perfect cat-eye…
Practice! I swear I have been doing a cat-eye for as long as I can remember. I use Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner — it’s easy to apply because it has a felt tip that doesn’t wobble around, and it’s waterproof. I have literally jumped into a pool and this stuff stayed on. It’s my favorite.

My favorite place to find graphic design inspiration is…
Pinterest + walking around. I am kind of Pinterest obsessed and use it for design, interior, food, lifestyle and of course, fashion inspiration. As a visual person, seeing everything through photos is so natural to me. Also, nothing is better than walking around a new city or place to be inspired by storefronts, restaurant menus and type that happens to be around us all day every day.
